NEW MOVIE: ‘Necessary Death’

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Shia LaBeouf, who is about to walk the Cannes red carpet with Oliver Stone, will star in the romance-and-action feature “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman.”
Drake co-wrote the film “Tully” and is writing the comedy “Project X” for producer Todd Phillips at Warner Bros.
Commercials director Dante Ariola will helm the project for Mandate Pictures.
LaBeouf’s latest film, Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” will have its world premiere at the Cannes film festival in May.
The actor’s recent big-screen work includes “Eagle Eye” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Next he’ll film the third “Transformers” film for Paramount.
Matt Drake‘s script landed on the unofficial 2007 Black List of most-liked unproduced screenplays that year.
“Necessary Death” will be the feature directorial debut of Ariola, who won the DGA Commercial Director of the Year designation in 2007.
The title character travels to Budapest after his mother dies of cancer, and he becomes involved with a mysterious Hungarian girl. Unfortunately, she’s in a relationship with a violent crime boss who isn’t prepared to give her up.
This is such wonderful news!!! I am so glad to hear Shia doing a movie where he can expand his acting range. My question is where are they going to film this movie? And how soon will we know when this movie gets the green light to film?

its hard to tell and way too early to know how far this film will expand in theatres. right now, shia is the biggest and most recognizable name attached to the project. i dont think it would fall into the limited release category due to shias name and the genre of the film and Mandate Films is pretty solid as far as production goes. thats just my prediction tho. we just have to wait and see

well, if they stay true to the script, one location will be Hungary and somewhere here in the States. but you are thinking way ahead and too fast #1 (guest). right now, they just have a a director & an A-list actor signed on to the project. they still have to get the rest of the cast & crew together, budget finalizations, city permits for wherever they want to shoot, etc. they aim to start production this fall…but i dunno if thats pre-production or actual filming with the actors involved. but the script is done & has a good storyline so thats a plus. i hope it all works out

i’m so excited about this movie! it sounds like shia will finally get to show some range again and it was #12 on the 2007 Black List, which is pretty awesome because it means the script is not crap.
although the more detailed plot summary does make it sound as if its another action movie, i feel like that may be a bit misleading because
1) shia has said he wants to do something different to challenge himself, which he wouldn’t be doing with just another run of the mill action movie. there’s obviously something else he appreciates in the script
2) this is an indie movie, so i doubt they have the budget or the time for intricate and costly action sequences.
either way, i’m very interested to see how this turns out. i hope it allows shia to expand and remind people of his genuine talent

I read that this film is to be an indi film this means that it will have limited releases in the theaters, according to Wikipedia. I remember Shia saying that is the kind of films that he wants to do for no on to branch out. Maybe so he will not be an “a lister” anymore and stop doing big hits. He might want his name to not be as well known, so the paps don’t follow him around anymore. Also I think that Carey could have influenced him in this decision. Yeah he may be trying to branch out by doing different roles, but he could have chose a non indi film you know a film that is known to go to theaters nation wide (world wide as well). This could also explain the fullest that I have ever seen his beard (new look of his), he wants to not be regonized anymore. He wants people to stay away from him and Carey. I bet that if he dumped Carey that things would have been a lot different. We would have seen a lot more of Shia, with not a thick beard and he would be doing other roles that does branch his acting ability but not so much of these damn indi roles.

The only reason I say this is cause they are calling this film an Indi film and wikipedia defines indi films to only go to selected theaters.
So I am thinking that Transformers 3 will be the last blockbuster and Wall Street 2 is going to be the last film that we will see in our local theaters. Shia himself said that he wants to do different roles (Indi kind of films).
I have heard actors wanting to branch out there is nothing wrong with that at all, that is great, but I never heard of actors wanting to “demote” themselves like sticking to only Indi type films.
I think that the decision to wanting to stick with these low profile kind of films has to with that Carey, IMO. This way Shia can spend more time with her, and she said that she did not want to be the “lead” anymore so less attention is going to be on her, Shia might be following her lead. I don’t think that Shia wants to lose Carey so he will do anything to keep her, so if this means to “demote” himself he will do so. Can’t say that he needs money cause I am guessing that he is set for life.

this also will not be shia’s first independent film, a guide to recognizing youur saints was released in 2006, long before shia met carey.

Mandate Pictures is responsible for putting out JUNO!!! they have a pretty good track record for indie films. if u live in a small rural area, this film may not come to your area. alot of films are in selected cities these days. this film is not going to be in EVERY cinema in your city and state, but mainly the big cinemas where everyone flocks to and makes the most money. its a good career move and leave carey out of it. shes currently unemployed and shia just got a new gig before hes even started his latetest (TF3) LOL, so i doubt she has anything to do with his career moves. so relax u guys, and let him be the actor/artist that he wants to be!

good question samantha (about TF3). the big blockbuster/heavy action scenes are being shot in chicago & moscow specifically. but i could see them actually getting the ball rolling in la to film the smaller stuff. but starting in july and trying to wrap up by september seems almost impossible with a film of this magnitude. ive heard that Bay moves fast, but geez! if not may, than definitely june for sure. thats my theory

This board is getting so negavitve. Why can’t everyone just get alone. I totally understand the different opinion’s, that is okay. But not so much negative crap.
I don’t know if the tention is cause the lack of Shia news or what.
